Here is a possible trade scenario:
The Lakers would be involved in a trade with the Orlando Magic with three marquee names headlining. The trade would involve Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom, and Dwight Magic. Bynum, Odom, and Steve Blake would be sent to Orlando for Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, and Earl Clark.
The Lakers would have to eat about $2 million in salary, pending the new CBA allows them to. The Magic receive two potential all-stars in Bynum and Odom, so they don't get LeBron'ed. It gives the Magic some players to work around and build a championship roster. Now for the Lakers.
The move would be quite interesting for the Lakers. They give up probably their best trade chip in Lamar but receive two 'physical' things and one 'intangible'. Bynum doesn't have a track record of staying healthy so its only a matter of time when the knees give out and the Lakers would be smart to let the Magic deal with that. They acquire Howard and Nelson which solves the bonafide center and heir apparent to Los Angeles and a younger quicker point guard in Nelson. I threw Clark in there because he is similar to Lamar in play style. Clark didn't get much spotlight mainly because of the roster in Orlando but with Mike Brown and a new offense he would be perfect. Then the intangible aspect is youth. With Blake and Lamar both pushing 32 it wouldn't be a bad idea.
I posted this idea on nba-tade-rumors.com and users seemed to be split on the idea. People were split 15-15 on believable and unbelieveable on this idea. Which has actually peaked my interest because it seemed to be the most believable post on there. One comment on a similar post was, "Where do I begin on what's wrong with this, oh yea too much drugs." I also put the trade into ESPN's Trade Machine and it came out tade accepted.
With the seal of approval, the Lakers would increase their wins by 10 games. If I am not mistaken that would have put them at the top seed of the Western Conference last year. The Magic would decrease by 11 wins but that is with a few of their players leaving as well.
Just something to think about and wait for. Have a nice day!

Free Agent Summer
I would like to start off this new post with an apology for not posting in a timely manner. I have been dealing with other things rather than basketball and the Lakers. But I am here now and lets get this thing rolling again shall we.
Free Agents/Trades need to be made
First off, Bynum needs to go. Dwight Howard won't be staying in Orlando for very much longer and the Lakers and Magic will swap Disneyland and Disneyworld. Yes Bynum is more gifted and younger than Howard but you have to remember where Bynum learned all of his moves..Los Lakers. This trade would instantly make the team better especially if Pau can return to form. With Pau's passing skills and away from the basket play Dwight would be the perfect compliment.
Kobe is on the decline and needs to pass the keys to LA to somebody new. I'm not letting Pau take the driver's seat though. This will end up being the Shaq & Kobe scenario but in reverse. Kobe being the old dog and Dwight the young gun. I believe that this will work out even though Kobe is probably the most arrogant player in the league right now. He will learn to play second fiddle and still be able to get his own.
Then the Lakers should try to move bad contracts around for just bench/depth players. Those players include Steve Black, Luke Walton, and possible Artest (oops, World Peace). Artest would be the hardest of the three in my opinion. I'm not saying that they should try a Pau Gason heist but something to shore up the bench to make it deeper. Just look how the Dallas Mavericks did this season.
Shannon Brown, Theo Ratliff, and Joe Smith will all be gone and their roster spots will be open. Here is the plan regarding free agents...(pending the CBA agreement allows)
Sign Aaron Brooks: speed and perimeter shooting. A much needed upgrade from Steve Blake, who was a failed experiment, and would step right in with Mike Brown's new running program. His defense is below average but that is what the offseason and practice is for.
Sign Carl Landry: All Laker fans know how he was getting in Pau's head. Keep your friends close and enemies closer? Lakers have done it before. He brings hard nosed defense for being undersized and is young. More importantly he is athletic and young a perfect combination for rebuilding.
Sign J.R. Smith: Lakers get more tattoos, replacing Shannon Brown. He would bring tenacious D. He has shown that he can do other things besides shoot the three ball and it would be great to have him back up Kobe so Kobe doesn't get harassed anymore. His defense has improved and his attitude would be perfect for a team that didn't have one.
For a Bonus:
Maybe a Shane Battier for defense and three point shooting?
Tyson Chandler to back up D-Howard and bring him back home? Unlikely, but wishful thinking.
Chris Humphries, have all the Kardashians in one place??
Earl Clark/Aaron Gray, why not since we are on the subject?
Now remember this would be peaches and cream if the CBA allows it to be. We have to tune in and find out.
If you have a questions or comments feel free to post them. Here's an idea, you post a free agent and I'll give you my opinion on where they will be playing.

Lakers v. Magic Postgame
Final Score: Lakers 97 Magic 84
The Lakers feasted on the home crowd as the Lakers came back from an eight point deficit at half time to beat the Orlando Magic. Like I have stated before if the Lakers play clean basketball and defense they are a hard team to beat. They did just that on Monday night at Staples Center. The Lakers are now 48-20 and are vitually tied for 2nd place in the Western Conference with the Dallas Mavericks.
The Lakers forced a total of 18 turnovers and only gave up three. Bynum, once again, set the defensive and inside presence inside the paint. Still want to trade him Laker fans? He finished with 10 points, 18 rebounds and four blocked shots. He was giving Dwight Howard all that he could handle inside. If you just look at the box score, Lakers v. Magic, the Lakers as a team picked up its intensity and gearing up for the playoffs. The starters, except for Artest, all scored in double figures and even Lamar added 16 points and seven rebounds (sixth man of the year?)
The Lakers now looked prime for the playoffs. They have proven that they can win without Kobe's best game and that they can do so against one of the better teams in the league. In the first half the Lakers shot only 38 percent from the floor, and I was thinking here comes another loss at home to a big team. But no, they dug deep and play solid defense leading to efficient offense. They outscored the Magic 44-34 in the paint, and the Magic have Dwight Howard. The Lakers forced the Magic to take contested 3-point shots. The Magic either live by the 3(first half) and die by the 3. They were 10-23 for the game, not what they want if they want to win.
What this means for the Lakers?
This win shows the toughness and the true talent of the Lakers. The played another grind-it-out game by feeding the bigs and kicking it out when it gets too congested inside the paint. They played the half court game on both sides of the floor. The Magic want to get in transition and spot up for an open three or just throw it in to Howard. The Lakers stopped that in the second half and gave themselves a chance to win with their strong defense. The Lakers got their championship swag back even with Kobe with a bad wheel. They have now won 10 out the 11 since the All Star Break and playoffs are now in their minds. Even if the Lakers finsish in the 3rd seed, I think it wouldn't matter.
The Lakers have proven that they can beat the tough teams on the road (excluding Miami). They have won in San Antonio, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Boston, and even Portland. The Lakers are true road warriors and I don't think any team can beat the Lakers four times in one series.

Lakers v. Mavericks
Sorry everybody about the missing Miami post, I was super busy with school and didn't get around to it.
So let's get on with the show. The Lakers face the Mavs tonight in Dallas and I think this game means more than the Miami game. This game is a conference game and will likely determine who gets the number two seed in the Western Conference.
The loss in Miami is just another regular season loss. The Lakers didn't get up for the game and frankly the officials blew a few calls here and there. But I'm not blaming the officials for the loss I'm blaming the Lakers. They didn't play a clean game and Kobe decided to ball hog the last few minutes. It's ok Laker nation when playoffs come the game is a lot more different.
Lakers v. Mavs
This is a must see game due to the implications it has. The Lakers are looking to rebound (which they didn't do much in Miami) after the loss in Miami and get the number two seed in the West. If the Lakers can win this game it proves to me that they can play the tough teams in their division. You cant get to the finals unless you win your conference. They have proven they can beat the best, San Antonio, and a win over the Mavericks would definitely boost up the morale. The Lakeshow has a record of 26-11 in the Western Conference and that shows they can win in the West.
Prediction
Lakers will win the game tonight. They are coming off an emotional (not crying) loss to Miami and they will be fired up. They are going to want to show that they are here to win the Western Conference and make it to the Finals. The Mavs will play the Lakers toe-to-toe but I think the Lakers can pull one out in Dallas. Lets make it interesting: Lakers will win by 5 tonight.
When (not if) they get in the finals, they only have to play one team from the East. Miami won't make it because they don't have the defense like a Boston or Chicago. I believe that the two teams I just mentioned, one of them will be in the finals. If I had to choose now, I'd say we are looking at a Finals rematch from last year.
I will be posting up a post-game analysis tomorrow mainly because I will be out tonight watching the game with friends. I don't want to be the guy on his computer writing about the game. Hope everyone has a nice day and enjoy the weekend
Go Lakers.

Clipping the Hawks & More
Lakers v. Hawks
Final Score: Lakers 101 Hawks 87
The Lakers folllowed up the San Antonio game with a repeat performance against the Hawks. The Lakers have improved to a record of 46-19 and now have won eight straight games. The Lakers rolled into Atlanta and to simply put it, over-powered the Hawks. Inside dominance, strong defense, and clean basketball helped the Lakers win their first game in Atlanta since February of 2007.
Once again the height advantage played a key roll in the routing of the Hawks. Andrew Bynum showed up to work and earned his paycheck. He finished the game with 16 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocks. Yes, Al Horford did have a pretty good game but Bynum was just too big for him. Bynum was dunking, getting alley-oops, layups, and simple put-backs. The Lakers outscored the Hawks in the paint 44 to 20, once again showing the height and dominance of the defending champs. But what about Kobe Bryant?
Hats off to Kobe Bryant for passing Moses Malone for 6th on the all time scoring leaders list. He definitely has put the work into it and is well deserving of the title. "I'm just very fortunate, that's all," Bryant said. Mr. Cool and Collective he is. Next up for Kobe....SHAQ. When (not if) Kobe passes Shaq, it will be one more thing Kobe is better at than Shaq. He now has more rings than Shaq and will be ahead of Shaq on the scoring list. Kobe had 26 points, six rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block. Once again he, along with the rest of Lakers are filling up the stat sheet.
"It was a matter of understanding and picking his spots and learning to play the game on the NBA level. And he did that. ... He's a phenomenal player." Larry Drew, the former Laker player now Hawks head coach.
How The Game Was Won...
Inside dominance and ferocious defense was the key to tonight's win. Defense wins championships and defense also leads to offense. The Lakers hammered the Hawks inside the paint scoring 44 points in the paint. The Lakers' bigs (Gasol and Bynum) played a little bit of the high-low offense and looked real smooth and efficient doing it. But if a game ball was going to be given out, Bynum would be the recipient of it. His presence inside the paint molded how the Lakers were going to execute their offense. He not only blocked shots but changed and challenged a lot of the shots that even came in the vicinity of him. His athleticism showed up even with a surgically repaired knee. Not to steal any thunder away from Kobe, he played a well balanced game...he even had a block on Josh Smith. The grind it out, slow, methodical, and brutal half court sets seem to be the compliment to nine game win streak.
NitPicking
The Lakers bench played down to the level of Miami's bench. They did score 27 points (Lamar led them with 12) but started to give away a lead in the 2nd and 3rd quarters forcing Phil to put the starters back in. The bench needs to pick it up and play at the same level of the starters. The Lakers' bench has the players to make up a starting five in Cleavland. But if there was one aspect of negativity from this game it would be the bench play. BENCH PICK IT UP!!!
Coming Up
Lakers head into Miami putting their nine game win streak on the line. The Heat have lost five in a row now so expect them to come out playing with a high level of intensity. I believe it will be a close game but I like the Lakers in this one. They have too much momentum heading into the game...Atlanta is no slouch of a team. But the Heat game is a game for the fans, the Lakers would probably like to skip this game and head into Dallas (Western Conference key game). The Dallas game, I think, would mean more in the "playoff picture".

Lakers v. Hawks and More
Preparing for the Atlanta Hawks:
With the Lakers (45-19) coming off their dominating victory over the Spurs the Lakers head into Phillips Arena. The Lakers will look to extend their win streak to eight games and gain some post-All Star break momentum. They play the Hawks (27-26) who with Kirk Heinrich have actually played some good basketball. They are 3-2 with him in the lineup including a win over Chicago and have tightened up the defense.
This will be a rematch from a couple of weeks ago and I like the chances the Lakers have on this game. Kobe is focused, Bynum is playing terrific defense, and the Lakers look like a well oiled machine.
The Lakers are 180-134 against the Hawks dating back to the Minneapolis Lakers and the St. Louis Hawks. With the way the Lakers are playing, this should be a win but a close win…don’t expect another blow out like the Spurs game. They have to be careful of the big game “hangover”.
Its going to be a good game, I will try and watch most of it; I will be in class for about a quarter then I will follow this post up with a post-game analysis and commentary. I am predicting the Lakers to win this game by a comfortable margin but the Hawks will give them a run for their money.
The Real Season Starts Now
The All-Star game is in the rear view mirror and the Lakers look the most focused I’ve seen this season. They have a sense of “ok, this is when we need to turn it on and be motivated every single night.” The competitive instinct has kicked in for the Black Mamba for the “real season” and is trying to get his team ready for the stretch run.
Where has this team that’s won 7 in a row now, been all season? I don’t know but I’m glad they are here now. This is the Lakers team that’s won two championships in a row and they are returning to that form.
Biggest key according to Bryant, “We are limiting turnovers.” They are playing clean basketball and playing as a team. If you watched the Spurs game, on one possession all five players touched the ball and turned an “ok” look to the basket into a great one.
They are finally playing like the championship caliber team they were last year and the year before that. Playing to their strengths is what the Lakers figured out; their size and length and the “ace in the hole---KOBE BRYANT.
This is the NBA, where amazing happens and this is the point of the season where the Lakers need to buckle down and keep playing the way they are. I’m not saying to win every game here on out because it’s not going to happen, lets face it.
As a Lakers fan, I am hoping that the team can play hard night in and night out and put themselves in a position to win ball games. If the team plays hard and loses, I’m ok with that; it’s when the Lakers go out there and play lazy basketball and get ran out of the building (Cleveland game). Let's hope for a Lakers victory tonight. I will see you later after the game.
NOTE: Kobe has 13 technical fouls going into tonight’s game. He is three technicals away from being assessed a one-game suspension and the Lakers have 18 regular-season games left to play. Technical foul totals are reset when the playoffs begin.

Barnes & Healthy
Matt Barnes made his return to the court on Sunday and it seemed like he didn't miss any time at all. He scored five points and grabbed six rebounds. Pretty good night after coming back from surgery.
"I just wanted to get out there and run around a little bit and bang into people and see where my body and my knee was," he said. "Everything felt fine. I'm here the rest of the season."
The Lakers enjoyed having Barnes back because he can give Ron Artest a rest and the drop-off between Matt Barnes and Artest defensively isn't that great. It is WAY better than bringing in Luke Walton to try and gaurd an above average ball player.
Barnes said via Twitter about the game, "Besides point shaving on a couple of my layups it felt good to be back on the court. Good win 2day, we gonna keep it rolling."
Let's hope that Barnes and the rest of the Lakers keep rolling on rest of the road trip....its going to be tough!

Current Standings and Impact
With the Grizzlies beating the Mavs 104-103 tonight, the Lakers and Mavs are now tied in the wins column. This is a huge deal because the two teams are now fighting for the second spot in the West. Lets face it, neither of the two teams are going to catch the Spurs for first place. The Lake Show and Mavs will be playing each other soon and this game will be a match of wills.
Would you rather have the Lakers finish in the 2nd seed or the 3rd seed?? Post your comments and rationale for it

The San Antonio Smashing
Los Angeles Lakers (45-19) vs. San Antonio Spurs (51-12)
Final Score: Lakers 99 Spurs 83
Was this a game foreshadowing the Western Conference? I think so, minus the once 30-point lead the Lakers had on the Spurs. The Lakers strolled into the River Walk and showed the team with the league's best record how games are won. The Los Angeles Lakers probably played the best game of their season showing off their defensive prowess, offensive dominance, and the "killer instinct" that has seemed dormant for the previous games. Dominated nearly every aspect of the game except fast break points (no surprise there). I think Laker fans should be really happy with what was on display today.
The Lakers went into a very hostile environment and showed why they are the two time NBA champions. The defense definitely showed up, the main ingredient for championships. The Spurs starters: Duncan, Parker, Blair, Jefferson, and Ginobili were combined for 28 points. The team only scored 83, so the started contributed barely 25 percent of the points. The only starter to have an "average" game was Tony Parker scoring 14 points, three assists, and two steals. The Spurs bench pulled the slack, a little bit. The Spurs were held to a mere 36 percent and only 33 percent 3-pt field goals (which absolutely killed the Heat on Friday). The Spurs had won 22 straight games on their home floor but the Lakers were the home-wreckers today. The Lakers were out there on the floor with a message to give the rest of the league.
The size of the Lakers was probably the biggest factor in the game (30 points in the painted area). The Lakers were just too big for the Spurs and the size definitely bugged them. I think people thought this game was going to be a lot closer than what it was, including myself. I thought this game was going to come down to the wire just like the one in Staples. The Lakers seemed so focused right now they see that Larry O'Brien trophy sitting in the trophy room. But Kobe Bryant plays the cool and collective person he has been throughout the season, "I don't think it's that big of a message that we sent today," he said. The Lakers team has taken on the persona of the guy that wins the game in a quiet but deadly way, nothing flashy or overwhelming but just wearing teams down with their size and the Black Mamba.
In reaction to the game, the Lakers are playing good basketball but hopefully this isn't their "peaking" point. I think they need to wait awhile before they peak because you want to be playing your best ball going into the playoffs. Don't get me wrong, they are playing great but don't show off all your tricks before the final show. "We need to be at our peak later on," Gasol said. "Not right now."
The Lakers have now seven straight games including wins over the Bobcats (one of two teams with a winning record over the Lakers), Thunder (good rivalry brewing), and Portland (in the Rose Garden). They have done so with a very stifling defense. Next up on the road trip: Atlanta, Miami, and Dallas (huge game...bigger than the Miami game)
In conclusion, the Lakers dominated the Spurs and showed that they still can play with the big boys of the league. Kobe got his usual stuff but the rest of the team followed suit with a very balanced game. The statement of the game, the Lakers are going to beat you with their defense, critical shooting, and the grind-it-out demeanor on the court. Looking forward to the next game and looking forward to my next post

This message, the road to the championship is going through Staples Center in Los Angeles...not the Clippers people. This was a STATEMENT game for the Lakers. This is the game that sets the pace/tone for the rest of the season, now if they can play like this against the Heat the Lakers have a pretty good measuring stick on where they are at right now. This game showed that they can still play against the league's elite teams and win those games. This has to be one of the most balanced games of the year, with four players scoring in double figures (Bryant, Gasol, Odom, Brown). Bynum played a very solid game, a game a center should be playing. He snatched up 17 rebounds and three blocks with four points but he challenged shots and made his presence felt. As a team, the Lakers shot a blistering 46 percent (Gasol even made a 3-pointer) and 20 points in the paint.

Highlight of the Night: Kobe drilling the 3 on the wing in Manu's face then to top it off, talking smack to the Spurs fans
Prediction: Win in Atlanta and Miami, Too close to call in Dallas
